i want to leave my spoiled brat of God attitude...

God, had been gracious to me... When in times of trouble, I've had good times and bad times, yet he had put me in somewhere which is for my current sight a quite a considerable and gracious spot in life for a procrastinator like me... More than that, I really want a way out of this uninvesting of his treasures habit, in which my knowledge wasn't been givin' back to people me, or am I askin' too much for myself... Also, I have this scary decision to make... and really needing guidance from God...

Self-Forgetfulness

Socrates said the un-examined life is not worth living—but neither is the over-examined one!

We know (hopefully) that happiness is blocked by selfishness. But fewer are aware that the key is not found in trying to be self-less.

The key is self-forgetfulness, which has this paradox:  you can't pursue it.

The Real Focus

Simple Examples

To fall asleep, forget about sleeping.

To float on water; forget about floating.

To make a good first impression, forget the impression.

To be "marri-able", focus less on marriage and more on the person

To receive love, don't look for it—look for God and others.

A favorite activity of mine is viewing a film and forgetting I'm watching it. You become engaged at a deeper level, because you lose yourself in it.

In another example, I received the gift oftongues after a four month ramp-up of hunger and effort—and then didn't get it until I let it go. The dynamic Artist frequently creates tension/release, desire/detachment.

In fact, the word ecstacy literally means to "standing outside oneself." For a man to be deeply happy, he must get over himself.

For proof, consider that people you love to be around are authentically humble—which does not mean they rate themselves low—they are not rating themselves! They're focused on you.

Likewise in prayer, just ignore self-distractions and receive God's love. Christ teaches this again and again:

  • A seed must die to release the new life. (John 12)
  • Whoever wants to be exalted must be humble. (Luke 18)
  • Whoever wants to find himself, must lose himself. (Mat 10)

(Of course, this isn't saying we shouldn't love ourselves or look after our needs, but it's an awarenes of our twisted tendency towards omphalaskepsis; i.e., naval-gazing!)

The True Self

At the John Paul II Institute, students are drilled with this mantra:
"Man finds himself through a sincere gift of self."

C.S. Lewis unpacks what we receive by self-donation—the true self!

Until you have given up your self to Him you will not have a real self... But there must be a real giving up of the self.  You must throw it away "blindly" to so speak. Christ will indeed give you a real personality:  but you must not go to Him for the sake of that.  As long as your own personality is what you are bothering about you are not going to Him at all.

The very first step is to try to forget about the self altogether.  Your real, new self (which is Christ's and also yours, and yours just because it is His) will not come as long as you are looking for it.  It will come when you are looking for Him.  Does that sound strange?  The same principle holds, you know, for more everyday matters.  Even in social life, you will never make a good impression on other people until you stop thinking about what sort of impression you are making.  Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it.  The principle runs through all life from top to bottom.  Give up yourself, and you will find your real self.  Lose your life and you will save it.  Submit to death, death of your ambitions and favourite wishes every day and death of your whole body in the end: submit with every fibre of your being, and you will find eternal life.  Keep back nothing. Nothing that you have not given away will be really yours.  Nothing in you that has not died will ever be raised from the dead.  Look for yourself, and you will find in the long run only hatred, loneliness, despair, rage, ruin, and decay.  But look for Christ and you will find Him, and with Him everything else thrown in.

The Reward: God in You

Remove the focus from self.  Why be so consumed with the image you portray when the Lord looks to the heart?  One of the biggest distractions you have to Me is the focus you keep on yourself.

I have so much in the supernatural that awaits your call, but what hinders it?  Comfort zones, not being noticed, half-hearted commitment, lack of diligence—what is it for you that holds on to that sense of self you find so necessary to preserve?

Remember: your life is not your own.  This means I seek abandonment in exchange for abundance.   Never get too comfortable with who you think you are for at any given time, that is only a passing image.   You should be focused forward and on your way to ever greater kingdom living.   I have new revelation for you daily.  Take in whatever you can to get closer to Me and receive the gifts that build the body of Christ.

Die to yourself daily, take up your cross—then you are ready to follow Me (Mark 8:34-35).   Don't miss Me.  Get beyond yourself and you will be free to see Me and to see yourself in light of Me.   The days are short and your eternity awaits.   Do not be provincial in your spiritual world.

I have called My Body to an anointing of carrying out "greater works" to "turn the world upside down".   And each of you, My sons and daughters, are a vital part of that call.   Come and share your light—"give and it will be given back to you."

Live for the power of Christ to manifest in you and let this be your reward.

These people have turned the world upside-down!

FUBU rant (so i'm beginning to sound babyish)

bible said that u are not to do ____ (e.g. FUBU) so I don't know how to flee... and perhaps, not doing anything in relation to the stuff is also bad...

Still want to delight in the Lord... is FUBU or it's lesser evil form FwB bring me joy and is in line to a greater purpose?

I do have from time to time temptation of advocating masturbation, FUBU, Porn, RApE (it's of course i'll have her say it's for some trust that it has some limitations and not the real rape thing) ... and be thinking of the pre-act that I promise to act in an ethical way...

...or is there not any ethical way towards The Act...

I'm quite a bit on the skeptical side, but I want to seek Jesus' help nonetheless...
